With its headquarters at a modern campus in Palasamudram, Andhra Pradesh, NACIN is designated as a World Customs Organization (WCO) regional training center for the Asia-Pacific region.
The history of NACIN goes back to the establishment of NACEN, which was established to train Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers in customs, excise, and narcotics control. With the passage of time, with the implementation of GST in 2017, and with the changing needs of tax administration, NACEN was reorganized and renamed as NACIN so that it could represent its enlarged mandate. The headquarters of the academy were shifted from Faridabad, Haryana, to a 500-acre vast complex in Palasamudram, Sri Sathya Sai District, Andhra Pradesh. The foundation stone for the state-of-the-art building was laid in April 2015 by then-Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu. On 16 January 2024, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, opened the new campus, a major milestone in the progress of NACIN as a world-class training institute.
NACIN aims to establish an institution of excellence where officers of indirect taxation and narcotics control undergo academic, professional, and personal growth. Its prime objectives are:

NACIN's roles go beyond training to influencing India's economic and security environment:
Tax Administration: By imparting GST and customs training to officers, NACIN aids the government in streamlining taxation, increasing compliance, and improving revenue realization. The roll-out of GST, faceless assessments, and record tax collection are a testimony to the effectiveness of NACIN's training.
Since the inception of its campus at Palasamudram in January 2024, NACIN has stepped up its activities:
The academy remains active in interacting with high-ranking dignitaries, with officer trainees greeting President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
As the economy of India expands and international trade patterns change, NACIN must contend with the challenge of staying abreast of technological advancements, evolving tax evasion methods, and novel means of narcotics smuggling. The academy is well placed to meet these challenges through its experiential learning centers, research-oriented Centre of Excellence, and foreign collaborations.
Increase its e-learning programs to cover a larger number of learners.
Enhance research in the area of indirect taxation to contribute to policy development.Intensify collaboration with international institutions in order to synchronize with global best practices and Strive to inculcate excellence and integrity as a culture in its trainees.
